Introducing sales director Richard Booth.

Spirit Yachts has appointed experienced marine industry professional Richard Booth as its new Sales Director. Richard’s appointment brings more than two decades of experience to Spirit, with previous roles spanning yacht sales, luxury custom yachts, project management, aftersales, and on-the-water operations.

Having worked for several years in the superyacht sector, Richard has a wealth of knowledge in selling luxury, custom boats from initial client engagement through to delivery. He also brings board-level experience to Spirit’s existing, well-established management team of Karen Underwood (Managing Director) and Helen Porter (Marketing Director), both of whom have been with Spirit for over ten years.

Spirit Yachts Managing Director, Karen Underwood, commented, “Richard brings an impressive breadth of experience to Spirit and is a natural fit with the existing team. He understands the complete yacht journey — from the initial conversation and developing the brief, into commercial negotiations, project management, and the long-term client relationship that follows. He fully appreciates the level of attention to detail and client service that is expected at the very top end of the market.”

Karen added, “Richard’s experience with both sailing and motor yachts is particularly valuable as Spirit continues to develop across both sectors. We are delighted to welcome Richard to Spirit and look forward to working with him to build on the strong foundations already in place as we continue to grow the brand.”

In addition to his extensive experience working with custom, luxury superyacht tenders, Richard also brings expertise across aftersales, refit projects, and brokerage, working with leading shipyards, yacht management companies, designers, captains, owners’ representatives, and UHNW clients.

Having worked as a professional yacht captain and skipper on sail and motor yachts, Richard has sailed more than 40,000 miles offshore, with experience operating sailing yachts up to 90ft. His yachting experience also includes racing onboard a Spirit R52 previously owned by Spirit Yachts founder, Sean McMillan.

Richard commented, “I have admired Spirit Yachts for many years, both professionally and personally, so joining the company feels like a natural next step. My career has taken me through almost every aspect of the yacht industry — from commissioning and working as a professional captain to sales, business development and managing complex, high-value custom projects. This has given me a good understanding of both sides of the relationship to deliver value for both the business and an owner.

“Spirit has a distinctive position in the market. It has an extraordinary reputation for craftsmanship and quality, with a strong ethos and a loyal customer base. I’m hugely excited to be joining the team and helping Spirit grow into its next chapter.”

Richard’s appointment comes at an important stage in Spirit Yachts’ development, with the company continuing to build on its portfolio of modern classic yachts as it launches its new P50 motor yacht this month.
