Our design language is inspired by the grace and proportion of classic 1930s yachts, reinterpreted for modern performance, a luxury guest experience and the joy of ownership.
Long overhangs, low freeboards, elegant sheerlines and handcrafted timber detail give each Spirit its unmistakable character, while contemporary naval architecture and in-house design allow every yacht to be tailored to its owner.

Spirit’s attention to detail in delivering on a brief is at the heart of every design. Initial discussions establish an owner’s plans and ideas for the yacht. Spirit then creates a specification and a design for reflection and refinement. Hand-drawn designs evolve into digital images ready for full computer design analysis. Whilst entirely optional, all existing and prospective customers are encouraged to become actively involved in the design process, which becomes a memorable and personal experience.

With a natural talent for creativity and a first class Master of Design degree, Tom Smith is an innovative designer with an impressive portfolio.
Tom has previous experience designing yachts in Italy and he was a finalist in Boat International’s Young Designer of the Year Awards. His interior design of the Spirit 111 Geist drew international acclaim when it won a World Superyacht Award.
Having collaborated closely with Spirit’s original founder during his early years, Tom works with each client and Spirit’s naval architects to bring projects to life. With his artistic flair and a meticulous eye for detail, Tom is passionate about creating yachts that inspire their owners and leave a lasting impression.

DRIVEN BY PERFECTION
World-renowned yacht designer Sean McMillan founded Spirit Yachts with his friend Mick Newman in 1993. He went on to build the company into a worldwide success story. A revered sailor on the classic racing circuit in his own Spirit 52, Sean has led the way in modern classic design and construction.
Today, Sean consults on projects from his design studio at home in the Suffolk countryside. He also spends time advising boatbuilding charities, speaking to young people, and inspiring the next generation. In his spare time, Sean can be found enjoying well-deserved time with his beloved wife Jenny and out walking with their dogs.
