ABOUT SPIRIT YACHTS
Spirit Yachts is based in Ipswich, Suffolk on the east coast of the United Kingdom.
The company was founded in 1993 by friends Mick Newman and Sean McMillan, who had a vision to build beautiful, elegant modern classic yachts out of responsibly-sourced timber.
As of June 2025, a Spirit R30 day sailor is priced at £350,000 ex VAT. A larger model, such as the Spirit C72 is priced at £4.5m ex VAT. These prices include everything you need to go cruising.
In Daniel Craig’s first film, Casino Royale in 2006, James Bond sailed a Spirit 54. The yacht was filmed in the Bahamas and in Italy – she was the first yacht to go up the Grand Canal in Venice in 300 years. In 2021, Daniel Craig’s final Bond film, a Spirit 46 featured in scenes in Jamaica when James Bond is taking time off from being a British spy.
Spirit Yachts has a model range of Cruise, Race, and Power yachts. Owners can personalise all of these models to suit their preferences, criteria, and itinerary. Clients also have the opportunity to create a completely bespoke yacht – an example of this is the Spirit SY111 Geist.
Every Spirit yacht is built using responsibly sourced timber, which by its very nature is a renewable material. Spirit takes care to source its wood from responsibly managed forests, ensuring compliance from the forest to when the timber arrives at its yard in England. Find out more here.

Spirit Yachts designs and builds its yachts in England, but delivers all over the world. There are currently Spirits based in the UK, Europe, USA and Australasia.
The length of build of a Spirit yacht depends on the size of the project. As an example, Spirit R30 day sailor takes 8 months to build and a Spirit C72 takes 28 months.
A Spirit yacht is built using a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. The yachts are inspired by 1930s classic lines and are designed to be timelessly elegant, whilst offering a luxury guest experience.
The hull construction of a Spirit yacht is known as ‘cold-moulding’ and begins with the laminating of wooden ring frames over full-size computer-generated patterns. Once the frames are positioned into a strongback, the horizontal hull planking is laid. The hull structure is stiffened by the application of double-diagonal veneers epoxy bonded at 45° before the whole hull is covered with an epoxy glass sheath.
In the larger Spirits, the central frames are reinforced with carbon inner frames to take the load of the mast, chain plates and high-aspect lead keel below.
Once the hull is made, it is ‘rolled over’ 180 degrees to be the ‘right way up’ so the interior fit out can begin and the systems are installed.
In the interior, exposed wooden frames and hull planking provide a natural warmth and beauty, alongside a client’s choice of fabrics and finishes. Intricate joinery and exquisite cabinet-making showcase Spirit’s eye for detail and expertise.
Advanced electrical and engineering systems are incorporated to deliver a luxury experience and sailing or motoring performance.
Deck planking is laid and a coachroof fitted before deck equipment is fitted and the hull is painted. Once outside the yard, the yacht is launched into the water for sea trials and commissioning.
Yes, there are often used Spirit yachts on the brokerage market. Contact Spirit via enquiries@spirityachts.com to find out which yachts are currently available or check the website here.
Spirit Yachts has a range of sailing and power yachts, ranging from 30 feet up to 100 feet+. The company has recently launched its new P50 Coupé and P50 Sport motor yachts designed to bring elegant, luxury yachts built in a renewable material to the power boat market.
Maintaining a wooden yacht requires regular attention, but with the right care, a Spirit yacht can last generations. Spirit Yachts provides a maintenance manual with each yacht, detailing checks and servicing. Whilst most wooden yachts require varnish touch ups every year, a full revarnish is usually only required every five years (depending on yacht usage).
Overall there is slightly more maintenance on a wooden yacht versus a GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) yacht. This is balanced out by the beauty and timeless elegance of a modern classic design, as well as the emotional connection and pride of ownership. However, a Spirit yacht is a modern classic so the hull is sealed therefore does not require the same level of maintenance as a traditional wooden yacht -it is more on a par with a GRP vessel.
